SkenData is becoming a sponsor of the Universitas, the flagship team of the Rostock Academic Sailing Club, and is thereby supporting young sailing talents from the region.
The Universitas, the flagship of the Akademischer Segler-Verein zu Rostock e.V. (ASVzR), has a new partner on board: SkenData. In doing so, we are supporting a crew that consists largely of students from the University of Rostock and continuing a commitment that has connected us to the university and the region for years.
The Universitas: From Training Grounds to Offshore Regattas
The Farr 42, which is about 13 meters long, can accommodate up to ten people and, with its modern sail plan, is at home on all courses. Its first voyage as the club’s flagship took it from Dublin to Rostock, where it immediately embarked on a five-week summer cruise through the Swedish archipelago.
The Universitas is sailed and managed by the “Aktivitas,” a group of college students, apprentices, and high school students who learn offshore sailing from the ground up here. Experienced skippers pass on their knowledge to new crew members. Together, they train, make repairs, and organize. In this way, beginners quickly become integral parts of a well-coordinated team on a boat that handles everything from weekly training sessions on the Warnow to challenging offshore regattas.
And those standards are high. At MidsummerSail 2020, a nonstop regatta spanning approximately 900 nautical miles across the Baltic Sea, the Universitas was the fastest monohull to reach the finish buoy in Töre, Sweden. In 2021, the crew took on the tidal waters of the English Channel for the first time in the legendary Fastnet Race and finished 13th out of 48 boats in their group. And this season, at the 2026 North Sea Week, it secured the title of “fastest club boat.”
Why SkenData Is Joining
For several years now, we have maintained close ties with the University of Rostock. We regularly participate in IT Career Night, the annual career event organized by the Career Service, where students and companies in the IT industry come together. In addition, since 2023, we have been supporting students at the University of Rostock through the Deutschlandstipendium. We have been supporting the Deutschlandstipendium for several years now, helping students as they progress through their studies.
Sponsoring Universitas is the next logical step for us. We are committed to supporting young talent from the region and maintaining a strong local network.
